The Deep Blue

I've sailed these oceans before
With the sun overhead and the wind in my favor
Each island, each current was mine to discover
The ocean, my friend, born into a lover.

The sunset bringing with it apprehension
The winds mercifully bore me away
The pain of departing replaced with the horizon
The deep blue becoming my prey.

This one called though I sensed the danger
With it's turquoise reflection and playful waves
I trepidatiously entered, trusting my vessel
Believing myself unbeaten and brave.

Too quickly the sun was hid from my sight
The waves grew larger and cold
Will my ship see me safely all through the night?
This ocean, this stranger, will rip out my heart.

Caught inside it's intense facination
I beg it to spare me it's deep murky depths
Once I'm there I'll be a slave forever
Slowly, so slowly you tighten your net.

"The sun will come out" I tell myself that
This ocean and I will make peace
The winds will again move in my favor
My ship will be battered, but free.

I'll sail away with missing pieces
The memory burned, but well kept
That ocean won't know he almost had me
I won't fade in the hold of regret.

Family Birthday

I went camera crazy yesterday at the Family birthday took a gazillion pictures, so if you want to see a ton of photos, click here. Unfortunately, I didn't get everyone as a huge crew were playing football and I wasn't able to get shots of them. Maybe next time.

The big dog story

I never liked rottweilers. Although they are good looking dogs, I always considered them aggresive and unpredicable. I've had discussions with rottweiler owners or wannabe owners who'd say, "they're such sweet dogs naturally, it's just depends on how they're treated." I'll beg to differ because most dog attack stories you hear involve rottweilers and today I had my own personal run in with one.
I was on my daily run and Chester, our golden retriever was following me like he always does, although I hate it because he loves to cut in front of me and break my stride. Anyway, halfway through the run I hear someone yell and I look over and there's this huge rottweiler barrelling towards us and just full on attacked Chester who was innocently minding his own business.
This insane dog had Chester on the ground in an instant, bit into his rump and wouldn't let go. Poor Chester was yelping away and all I could do was wave my arms francially and yell 'cause there was no was I was getting into the middle of a dog fight. Chester finally broke free and took off with the rottweiler close behind. The dog's owner was running like crazy trying to catch up to his dog. I've never seen someone run so fast in my life and he did catch up and take his dog down.
Chester continued running for dear life the opposite direction, so I figured he was on his way home and I finished my run. Turns out some nice woman saw the whole thing and got Chester to stay with her while she called the house. Paula was able to pick him up and when I checked him out afterwards he looked fine. No damage done, thank God. Next time he should do this.

These are a few of my favorite things........

I 've been tagged by this guy, so I'm listing the 8 traits of my perfect partner and tagging 8 people to do the same. If I ever find the man who possesses these 8 traits I will lure him to my castle, hog tie him and keep him in my dungeon to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. That said, here they are in no order of importance, except being that he has a deep love for Jesus and a disciple's heart. But that's a given and the most important trait, so I won't include that here.

1. Respectful. This is a big one. Respectful of women, children, human beings in general and very importantly respectful of my privacy and space, but who also knows when it's time to invade my space and pull me out.
2. Reliable. He calls when he says he will, is there when he said he would be, and does it when he said he would.
3. Funny. I love a guy who can make me laugh and who is big enough to laugh at himself.
4. Confident. There's nothing sexier than a guy who is comfortable in his own skin. He's easy going and generous, but doesn't let me walk all over him.
5. A Rebel. For the right causes of course. I love a guy who will stick up for the underdog, no matter how uncool it may make him look. Someone who cares more about his principles then the current mood of the crowd and who doesn't always feel the need to conform.
6. Fit and Athletic. Not excessively so, but I like it when a guy cares about how he looks and is concerned about his health. Although, if he has to flex in the mirror every day or takes longer on his hair than I do, I'll pass.
7. Tender. I'm not big on men who can't control their emotions, but I have a soft spot for guys who feel deep and aren't afraid to sometimes show that side.
8. Aware. I appreciate a guy who isn't too wrapped up in his world to notice that the sunset is amazing, the moon is full or the day is gorgeous. I love the outdoors and I connect with people who feel the same.

Hmmm.....on second thought, maybe I'll keep him. Now to tag 8 people; Michelle, Boo, Phil, Nadia, Abi, John, Paula, Steph

Missing you

I love this picture of my brother Vincent and his girlfriend Marcia and so had to post it. I love you Vin!

Sleeping the Day Away

Kyle and I have this flu virus that's been making the rounds in our home. I slept all day which I haven't done for as long as I can remember. It's 6:30pm and I just woke up. I'm feeling a little guilty and disorientated, but I'm sure it's done my body a world of good.
